Philipa’s Bio
Philippa’s first meeting with blues dance was in the attic above the old ambulance garage a late summers night in 2010. Following a string of house parties she turned her focus more and more towards Blues, and due to her unrivalled ability to absorb movement and technique she quickly left her mark on the dance scene, winning competitions and spreading her passion for blues through teaching. Drawing on her training in solo dance and gymnastics she brings a unique view on follower expression through control, definition and elegance. Balancing her quest for technical perfection, mastery of dance alignment and connection, is a bubbly personality and a love for really bad puns.
Vivien’s Bio
Vivien originally started taking dance lessons because he felt terribly awkward when music played at parties. He promptly fell in love with Lindy-hop and continued learning in Japan and the UK. Working part-time to attend more camps was just the beginning of an addiction that took him into training and dancing full-time, extending the styles to Blues, Solo Jazz, and Latin partner dances. Very active on the Oxford scene, he teaches several times a week and has been running a Lindy/Blues weekly night for more than two years. He has also taught across the UK and Sweden. As far as competition goes, he placed 2nd at the Lindy Shock Open J’n’J 13 and 1st at the Espanish Blues Festival J’n’J 13. His dance philosophy is about natural body movement and the intricate relationship between music and dancing. He firmly believes any dance should leave you with a big, unshakable grin on your face !
